John A. Monroe

Director, 777 Program Management (Retired)

Boeing Commercial Airplane Group

John Monroe retired in April 2003 as Director of 777 Program Management, a position he had held since September 1998. Monroe managed the program’s planning and customer commitment processes, including production and delivery commitments. In this capacity, he was responsible for all aspects of business operations, program and project management within the 777 Program and the delivery of expectations / commitments. He was also active in many Working Together relationships with 777 customers.

In his previous assignment, Monroe was deputy program manager of the 777-200X/-300X Programs, where he was responsible for integrating and coordinating the overall program plan for the 777X family of airplanes and managing all future 777 thrust-growth programs. Monroe was named to this position in June 1997.

In 1995, Monroe was appointed 777 Program Management senior manager, assigned to the 777-300 Program. He managed and integrated the requirements for that airplane model as it progressed through the development and production phases to become fully integrated into the broader 777 Program. Prior to this position, Monroe was chief engineer for 777 Engineering Technical Integration, Commitments and Compliance.

Monroe joined Boeing in 1965 and progressed through a number of engineering assignments, including management positions in New Airplane Development, Product Development (7J7), Boeing Support Services and Boeing Commercial Airplane Group Customer Support.

A graduate of the University of Puget Sound, he holds bachelor’s degrees in International Business and Finance. He also holds certifications by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).in their Engineering Management Certification Professional (EMCP) Program. Monroe is serving his tenth year on the Board of Directors for the Economic Development Council of Snohomish County, fourth year on the Board of Directors for Diversified, a sheltered workshop and third year on the Board of Directors for the Aerospace Futures Alliance of Washington.

Monroe and his wife Christy are lifelong residents of Everett, WA. They have one son, Jeff who also resides in Everett.


R. E. (Rich) Hansen

Principal

Engineering & Operations Support Services

Rich Hansen last served as Director for Production Engineering at Global Aeronautica, LLC in Charleston, SC from January 2008 until September 2008 and as a management consultant to their CEO and CFO until the Boeing Company buyout of the Vought Aircraft share was complete and operational. Previously, from May 2007 until September 2007 he served as a consultant to the Board or Managers and the COO at Global Aeronautic, LLC a key Mid and Aft Body production integration supplier to the Boeing Company’s new Model 787. Previous to his latest consulting assignments, he was at the Transportation Security Administration’s headquarters as director of Industrial Engineering and Process Improvement in their Office for Strategic Management and Analysis. He went to Washington, DC in a Senior Industry Advisor for the TSA following the September 11 terrorist attack. He created the Industrial Engineering Work Stream as its leader for the congressionally mandated Rollout and Implementation Program. He retired from government service in 2006 following a four year career and returned to private consulting.

He retired from the Boeing Company in 2000 after a 35-year career there, having served as director of industrial engineering for the twin-aisle programs of the commercial airplane group. Previous Boeing assignments included director of industrial engineering all wide body airplane production, the new 777-airplane program and director for operations support services at the Everett production center. Since his retirement he consults with executives and leaderships teams who are committed to enhancing their organizations competitive advantage and continuous improvement through integrated solutions.

Hansen has a Bachelors degree in Economics and Business Administration from Seattle Pacific University, and Executive Studies MBA degrees from University of Illinois in Finance and Cornell University in Operations Research and Design.

Hansen is a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and served as president of that organization from 1999 to 2001, and held positions of Chief Financial Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Information Officer. He has been a senior member of the institute since 1985. He has served as an industry advisor to the Council on Industrial Engineering since 1987. He served as council chairman from 1995 to 1998. From 1987 until his retirement in 2000, he served as the Boeing Company’s chief industrial engineering connection between the institute and their practicing professionals.

Hansen continues to volunteer his time and share his engineering and operational skill and experience at Diversified Industrial Services since 1985 to current. It is a not for profit work and training opportunity center serving developmentally disadvantaged clients of Snohomish County, Washington State. He services on its Board as Financial Chair, and has served as their CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Additionally, he continues to serve as an industry advisor and member of the Visiting Committee at the University of Washington for the School of Engineering, Industrial Engineering Department. He was recognized in 2005, for his leadership in Engineering Management by the Society for Engineering Management Sciences (SEM’S) and by the University of Washington, School of Engineering in 2007 for his service to the profession. In 2008, he served as Campaign Chairman that successfully raised $150,000 in contributions for the University of Washington, School of Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering’s Creating Futures program, which provide scholarships for deserving Industrial Engineering students.


Wayne C. McCarty

Aerospace Consultant



Wayne McCarty has over 36 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing operations. During his 33 years with The Boeing Company, Mr. McCarty held positions with progressive responsibilities in manufacturing operations both in the high technology military defense market and a variety of commercial airplane programs. His responsibilities and accomplishments include the management of sub assemblies, wire harness, tube development, mock-up, fuselage assembly and integration, final assembly, test, delivery, and worldwide customer support. He began consulting with leading aerospace firms in 2006.

Mr. McCarty has extensive knowledge and experience with start-up programs and green field operations. While at Boeing, he led many of the operations for four new aircraft programs; the 767, B-2, 777, and Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner, the most successful commercial airplane launch in history. Milestones achieved during this time include reducing costs, improving quality and measurable customer satisfaction.

Mr. McCarty achieved successful outcomes for Boeing’s Commercial and Military programs with lean philosophy and process improvements that reduced costs and increased production. He has relationships with numerous airline customers and global partners such as Vought Aircraft Industries, Alenia North America, Global Aeronautica, Spirit Aerosystems and the leading Japanese Heavy Industries, and continues to develop this network of industry experts to stay abreast of cutting edge aerospace manufacturing technology.

A volunteer and supporter of Diversified Industrial Services, Mr. McCarty has served as a board member since 1990. This non-profit employment and training opportunity center serves individuals with developmental disabilities living in Snohomish County, Washington.

Mr. McCarty began his aerospace career in Wichita, Kansas with Cessna participating in the launch of their C-441 in 1973. He has degrees from Barton County Junior College in Great Bend, Kansas and the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma in addition to successfully completing Executive Leadership Programs during his tenure with The Boeing Company.


Sydney Voorhees

Program Manager Secondary Learning Support (Retired)

Edmonds School District

Sydney Voorhees retired from the Edmonds School District in June, 2009. At that time, she was responsible for all the special education programs at the secondary level (middle and high school). This included an off-site program for students ages 18-21 years old. She was responsible for working with building administrators and special education teachers as well as parents, advocates, and lawyers. In addition, she had to ensure compliance with state and federal laws as well as train staff in these laws.

Before coming to the Edmonds School District in 1999, Dr. Voorhees had held a similar position in the Everett School District since 1985. From 1980-85, she was a special education teacher at Everett High School.

Her previous experiences were with the disabled adult population in Seattle and in Oregon where she was executive director at a sheltered workshop outside of Portland. Dr. Voorhees received her doctorate from Seattle University in Educational Leadership. She also has a certificate in Rehabilitation Workshop Administration.

Dr. Voorhees has been on the Board of Directors at Diversified Industrial Services for 25 years. She resides in Mukilteo, Washington.


Charlie Chaffin

SVP & Specialty Banking Manager

Cascade Bank

Charlie Chaffin has been the Senior Vice President of Cascade Financial Corporation since 2008. She began working at Cascade in 2004 as the Women’s Financial Group Manager out of the Lynnwood branch. She has more than 29 years of experience in the banking industry and has played a major role in providing her customers with targeted solutions to their needs. Additionally, she manages the bank’s medical/dental portfolio which provides loans to assist professionals with: buying; remodeling; growing; and selling their practices.

Charlie is very active in her community and currently serves on the Board of 4 local businesses including Diversified Industrial Services. She is also an executive board member of: The Economic Development Council of Snohomish County; Everett Community College Foundation; and The Everett Chamber of Commerce. She is a past president of the Ballard Chamber of Commerce.

She resides in Brier with her husband Kevin McCandlish and enjoys traveling as well as home entertaining.


Mike Campbell

Deputy Chief

Snohomish Police Department

Mike Campbell obtained his bachelors degree from Seattle University in Police Science and Administration while working full time. He began his police career by working as a police officer for the Snohomish Police Department for 2 ½ years and then moved to the Everett Police Department where he has worked for the last 34 years. Mike has held numerous positions as well as a variety of assignments, and currently holds the position of Deputy Chief.

Mike has been President of the Everett Police Management Association for the past 3 years. He also serves as Vice President on the board at the Everett Public Schools Foundation as well as serving on the Board for Diversified. Mike and his wife, Laura, reside in Tulalip and will have been married for 39 years this December. In Mike’s spare time he enjoys skiing, golfing, working in their yard, and attending various board meetings.


Gina Key





Gina Key is a Graduate of Seattle University with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Liberal Arts. Gina began her career in the Public Sector working for the Small Business Administration and the City of Everett in the Finance Department. In 1992 Gina decided to stay home and focus on raising her two girls. Since then she has been an active volunteer in the Mukilteo School District and her community.

Gina has served as Chairperson on the Sno -Isle Regional Library ADA Advisory Committee evaluating accessibility issues at the libraries and represented the disabled community in resolving barriers to access. Gina has been a member of the Board of Directors for Diversified since 2003 helping to promote and educate businesses to the value of Client Services provided by Diversified. She is also a volunteer Peer Mentor for the Northwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury System.

Gina is a paraplegic due to an automobile accident in 1979 and has since been passionate about improving access and assisting people with disabilities in any way possible. Gina resides in Mukilteo with her husband of 19 years and their two daughters.
